NFC payments is getting closer. According to Bloomberg, Google is planning to trial its new Near Field Communications (NFC) mobile-payment system in San Francisco or New York City within four months, allowing shoppers to make purchases using their smartphones at participating retailers.
The company will pay for installation of thousands of special cash-register systems from VeriFone Systems Inc. (PAY) at merchant locations, explains one of Bloomberg’s anonymous sources. Presumably, Google will run the trial with the NFC-equipped Nexus S (which already allows for NFC transactions).
